Even if I did get a generator down the line, I would probably use it just to recharge the power stations so I can run those inside overnight without having to keep the generator going all the time. I'm using the power stations as the power source, using solar panels as a primary recharge strategy and using my car as a psuedo-gas-generator if that fails me. In case someone asks, I'm not interested in using a standard gas generator to power the furnace. The one thing I worry about is the "floating vs bonded neutral wire" problem and making sure that there is proper grounding if I just plug it into the Bluetti EP500 (or even a Bluetti AC200). My main question is has anyone successfully (or unsuccessfully) tried something like this? Has anyone tried to run their whole home gas furnace off of a portable power station? In theory it should be like running it off of a Tesla Powerwall or LG Resu Whole Home Battery. I plan to charge the power station using portable solar panels (which I already have and have used) or using a 1000W Inverter hooked up to one of the car batteries (with the car running)-a poor-man's generator. If I had 2 of these I could rotate them and power one while I'm using the other. It stores up to 5.1 KWh using LiFePO4 batteries, which in theory could keep the heater running about 9 hours ( ). I want to power it with something like the Bluetti EP500 that's coming out end of summer. I plan to install an EZ Generator Switch ( ) next to the furnace to manually switch over to backup power. I believe those will pull between 400-500W, so it's reasonable to run off of an alternate power source since it only needs electrical power for the blowers, not the heat. I have a central AC and Heater unit, and the heater is natural gas (thank goodness). In the event of a power outage in sub-freezing temperatures I want to keep the whole home heated to avoid busted pipes.
